Description
Basic Function: Operate and maintain gas and wood high pressure boiler systems in a safe and efficient manner at the lowest minimum pressure to satisfy production needs in order to conserve fuel usage.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Operates and maintains 200 HPgas fired boiler and wood fired high pressure boiler in a safe, clean and efficient manner.
Performs maintenance, including preventative maintenance, on equipment inside boiler rooms (plumbing, light electrical, air compressors, etc.).
Performs daily water analysis on gas and wood fired boiler water and feed water.
Handles any and all emergency situations involving loss of water, power, pumps, fire, etc.; knowledge of all back-up water supplies and rotates soot blowers as necessary.
Operates front-end loader for loading wood chips into hoppers for wood fired boiler.
Completes daily log sheet as to water usage, soot blow log, daily "load" log, etc. as required for each boiler.
Empties ash container daily.
Prepares boilers for internal inspection once per year.
Maintains water softener by loading bags of salt into brine tank and emptying, cleaning, and refilling periodically.
Occasionally empties fly ash collector and empties ash barrel for wood fired boiler.
Completes log sheet on reasons why the boiler produced an opacity reading of 20% or more in the Stack Omissions Log Book.
Paints equipment as required.
Performs blow down once per shift on gas fired boiler.
Maintains inventory of all tools, chemicals, salt, etc.
Maintains areas outside of boiler rooms in a clean fashion (stack, induced-draft fan, blow down tank area, around hopper and conveyor systems).
Performs other related and non-boiler related maintenance functions during boiler down time.
Observes good housekeeping practices and prescribed safety precautions.
Requirements
Qualifications and Required Skills:
Previous boiler experience is a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Basic math skills
Lifts frequently (40 - 70% of normal work day) material weighing 25 – 60 lbs. Lifting generally from floor level to shoulder level.
Must reach, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
Must be reliable and willing to work overtime when required.
Tow motor license is a plus
High Pressure Boiler Operator’s License is required
Valid Driver’s License is required
Starting Hourly Rate is $23-$26 depending upon experience.
